Do You Have 2020 Vision?

January 30, 2019

Do you have 2020 vision?

"If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.” -Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

Where are you going? Today, tomorrow, three years from now…

Do you have a 2020 vision for where your life will be next year (in the year 2020)?

2019 is off and running, and as we quickly approach the end of January it seems a good time to pause and take stock of how the year has begun, and to start to cast a vision for where we want to be in 2020.

You see, the best time to start working towards our New Year’s resolutions isn’t January 1st of a new year, but rather months ahead of time so that when the new year does arrive we will already have a well thought out/planned strategy, have taken the preliminary steps to position ourselves to be successful, and (hopefully) have already started forming the habits that will ensure not just instant, but sustained, success.

It may not be as sexy as waking up on January 1st with the promise of starting fresh in a new year, but planning and preparing ahead of time positions us for a much greater probability to experience the lasting success, and ultimately the life changing results, that we set out to achieve in the first place.

It has long been said that it takes 21 days to form a habit. Recent research indicates that
it may be an even longer process, and pegs 66 days as a closer approximate average. Regardless, it is most certainly a wise strategy to prepare in advance when looking to establish the habits that we identify as ways/strategies that will help us to accomplish our goals. Just think; would you rather roll out of bed and try to run a marathon with no prep whatsoever, or establish specific habits (training schedule, nutrition plan, sleep routine, etc.) that you have strategically designed to help maximize your marathon running ability? I believe the superior option is clear.

So why not apply that same concept to other areas of your life as well?

Success does not happen over night. Meaningful change and lasting success usually consist of mundane processes that require foresight, planning, practice, and consistent commitment. Football players don’t just roll out of bed one day and go play in the Super Bowl. They spend countless hours studying film, running through practice drills, lifting weights, working with their coaches, and studying the playbook. In reality, they spend a lifetime preparing for that one moment where we see them under the bright lights at the Super Bowl.

Likewise, we cannot expect to simply roll out of bed on January 1st and start living some fantastic new lifestyle. We would be wise to spend the next 11 months making sure that our focus is clear so that our 2020 vision becomes our reality, rather than just another empty “someday” dream.

Think about it. What life do you want to be living in 2020?

Family…

Career…

Hobbies…

Faith…

Travel…

Health…

Relationships…

Life is too short to simply drift in the breeze! I encourage you to spend a half hour really thinking about what you want your life to be in 2020, and beyond. NOW is the time to start identifying and fine tuning your goals, and then, once you have a solid gameplan in place, to take action in making daily, weekly and monthly progress towards achieving the goals that you have in all aspects of your life.

Start forming the habits that will lead to successfully accomplished goals. Start accomplishing the "mundane" day-to-day goals that will lead to the lifestyle (family, career, hobbies, faith, travel, health, relationships) that you have been dreaming of.

Start to THRIVE in all aspects of your life!

Yes, it will take work/commitment. But it will be worth it. YOU are worth it. And believe me, if you trust the process you absolutely will feel significant momentum in a matter of weeks. With 11 months remaining in 2019, just think of how much further along you will be if you stick to your plans, and continue to work towards your goals throughout the rest of 2019. By the time 2020 arrives, you are sure to be THRIVING in all aspects of your life. What a beautifully crystal clear 2020 vision!

It’s your life.

You only get one.

Don’t wait.

God bless,
